I am a mid career artist and painting or drawing as long as I can remember.
I like hard work and am social, and yet need to be on my own.
When I was 23 I felt the urge to look for a place more nordic than Norway, where I'd been a lot in my childhood. I wanted to go to Iceland.
I wanted to take time to find myselve unbound from friends and family, alone with the creative powers of nature.
It freed me from the pressure of creating art, because the nature in Iceland has its own art.
And yet it emerged a tremendous creative power that I can still feel today.
Nature phenomena as mountains, water, trees, light , wind plants and clouds tell me about connections that rise far beyond my being. As a urban citizen re-finding myself in collision with natural elements, I like to submerge, by making treks, camping in nature, struggle with and preferably work directly from nature. I am searching for abstract means in natural environment, a balance between personal expression and visual impact. Looking for contrast between vast space an
closeness, erosion and explosion, details and big shapes, light and dark spaces, the temporary and eternal , grey tones and bright color.
In december 2019 I went back to Iceland on an artist-in-rescicendy in Northern Iceland. I could paint , photograph and explore Iceland during winter time. I was planning to head back in the summer, but then corona came.
The recidency was porsponed, but I went to Iceland on a trek and stayed one month camping and painting and photographing,,,,
This yesr I managed to do my summer residency at Nes and as well a two weeks recidency in the remote Gilsfjordur. It was, and still is a source of tremendous inspiration. Here I show works made at and shortly after the residency's.
